Tamiya brings back another R/C classic with this Subaru BRAT. Longtime fans will once again experience the nostalgia of their childhood and beginners can enjoy the easy operation of this colorful off-road truck. About the Subaru BRAT The Bi-drive Recreational All-terrain Transporter was created by Subaru in the late 1970's from their earlier 4WD station wagon model for the US market. Powered by a flat-four engine ranging from 1.6 to 1.8 liters in displacement, this pickup had the unique feature of having jump seats welded to the truck bed, which allowed it to be imported as a car instead of a truck. One of the car's more famous owners was former US President Ronald Reagan, whose red BRAT is restored and displayed at his former residence in California.

The Tamiya brat is a real classic and recognized around the world . I built my first Brat back in the early 80s . It made a come back a few years ago being re-released as were many of the classic Tamiya Radio control kits over the past several years . The brat kit has not changed much at all ..a few minor changes to the rear drive "dog bones" and the inclusion of an Electronic speed control (ESC) in place of the original mechanical unit. One of the first things to pop out at you when you lift the lid off the box is the super nice hard plastic body and all the nice detail . Build is straight forward and most find it to be fun and very rewarding . the frame , front and rear suspension , rear oil filled shocks , wheels , rear differential are all assembled by the build ,,even the body has some basic assembly in the way of attaching the front and rear bumpers , windshield , and roll bar..there is even a cool driver figure you paint and install to add to the realistic look of the model .The manual doe a great job of guiding you through the assembly process. I really enjoy the quality and durability of all the parts in a Tamiya kit and it is easy to see that countless hours went into the development of this model and the others that share the same basic chassis , like the Fog , Mud blaster , Monster beetle , Black foot etc. I LOVED my original Brat and the re-release is just as much fun to build and drive . The 540 motor included in the kit does a good job of serving up some scale speeds and long run times . For those that are looking for FASSSST this is not what you want . a brushless motor would send the brats differential to an early grave . too complete the kit you will need some of the following : - 2 channel radio with one servo for steering - paint for body and driver figure . - battery pack and charger - basic tools include a Phillips screwdriver and needle nose pliers. BOTTOM LINE - the Tamiya Brat is a super high quality kit and is a lot of fun to build and drive . Parts availability is excellent and there are even some nice aftermarket upgrades . take a trip back in time and see what was so cool about the late 70s and early 80s with all the "must have" Tamiya kits you have heard about for so long .
