Mac Text Editing Shortcuts for a PC User
Being a programmer way back when (still dabble today), moving around code quickly and changing code text was a necessity. As a long time PC user, I got used to using various combinations of Shift, Ctrl, Alt, and the arrow keys to move, jump to, and highlight text. As a recent blogger and newcomer to Mac, I still need to be able to edit text with shortcuts, but I’ve been all thumbs when it comes to these simple tasks on the Mac. So here’s my short list of Mac text navigation shortcuts.
Skip to end/beginning of line: command + right/left arrow
Skip to next/previous word: option + right/left arrow
Highlight next/previous word: option + shift + right/left arrow
Highlight to end/beginning of line: command + shift + right/left arrow
Highlight next/previous line: shift + down/up arrow
Highlight next/previous character: shift + right/left arrow
Now, you might find this list of little value. I, however, will probably be this page’s most frequent visitor for some time.
New Photo Gallery
I’ve been tinkering with Adobe Lightroom and am beginning to migrate my photo gallery to its new home. Check it out at www.jcwarfield.net.
Blu-ray on the Mac

Many were eagerly awaiting an announcement for Blu-ray support at this year’s Mac World, but sadly, no announcement was made. Does this mean you can’t use the Mac to create Blu-ray disks? No it doesn’t! You CAN burn Blu-ray video disks on a Mac.
Cowon Q5W vs. Archos 605 – My Pros and Cons list
After a couple of weeks with both of these devices, I’ve leared to love and hate many features between the Cowon Q5W and the Archos 605 Wifi. Here is my list of pros and cons based on my personal experience. These are just my opinions, which may or may not reflect your own. (more…)
Archos 605 vs. Cowon Q5W – Charging Comparison
Cowon Q5W took 6.5 hours from empty to full charge. Not too bad. The Archos 605 took over 14 hours!!! I actually don’t know exactly how long the Archos took to recharge, because it finished sometime during the night while I was asleep. I plugged it in at 9:42 am and as of 11:30pm, it still wasn’t done. That means I have time for only one full charge a day. If I watched only videos, I’d get about 4.5 hours of play time after which I’d have to hang it up for another 14+ hour recharge. Archos is going to make me buy another accessory, the charging dock…bast_rds.
Archos 605 Update – Much better!
Got a replacement for the buggy 605. The new one works much better now. Still has some oddities, like an unbelievably slow charge time (over 9 hours). I’ve updated the article and added more photos. Read the updated article here:
